Be part of a leadership team within the School of Medicine, Department of Human Performance at West Virginia University located in Morgantown, WV. We seek an innovative visionary to lead the Division of Physical Therapy as chairperson at the rank of associate or full professor. Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation and start-up package is available. The Division has a longstanding tradition of providing excellent physical therapy education, PT clinical practice, and research. This individual will be part of a dynamic educational and work environment with a strong emphasis on interprofessional education and collaboration.

The Chairperson position may be in either tenure or non-tenure tracks, depending on qualifications. The position presents an opportunity for a dedicated and experienced physical therapist educator to provide leadership, promote a prioritized agenda of scholarship and faculty development, contribute to growing interprofessional activities, and lead curricular innovation. In 2019, after a year of planning, the Division implemented a new curriculum plan based on critical assessment and contemporary movement system initiatives by the American Physical Therapy Association. The DPT curriculum provides a variety of pedagogy from traditional hierarchical based learning to integrated clinical problem solving. The DPT program is accredited through 2021, and planning for the upcoming accreditation cycle is well underway.

The Department invites applications for a department chairperson who is a visionary. The successful candidate will provide strong, dynamic, and innovative leadership to advance excellence in teaching, clinical practice, and research. Candidates should have a proven record of a commitment to professional and graduate education, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and effective management and interpersonal skills are required. The Chairperson heads a leadership team comprised of the director of clinical education and the director of clinical services with a robust team of dedicated administrative staff members.

The Chairperson is responsible for all aspects of academic leadership and administration within the Division including setting strategic direction, providing mentorship and faculty development, budgeting and fiscal management, curriculum development, oversight and evaluation, and development of new initiatives. The Chairperson also has responsibilities in teaching and scholarly activities, advancing physical therapy practice within local communities and the state of West Virginia, and contributing to a culture of inclusive excellence.

Qualifications :

The Chairperson must meet the following criteria for consideration:
  • Hold an academic doctorate
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in higher education, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in physical therapy education
  • Meet all CAPTE requirements for a Chairperson
  • Scholarship record consistent with appointment at the Associate or full Professor rank
  • Licensed (or eligible) in the state of West Virginia
All qualifications must be met by the time of the appointment.
