About the Opportunity:
The Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations is a hands-on technical/management role reporting to the Associate Vice President and Chief Technical Officer. In partnership with the AVP and CTO, the Director is responsible for managing current and future Infrastructure technologies and their development to support Northeastern University's growth. This individual will have a diversified background of technical infrastructure experience and skills, demonstrated project management acumen, excellent vendor management skills, plus a superior, service-oriented approach to infrastructure management. This individual will work closely with IT management, academic departments and business units to implement effective solutions with the university's objectives. The Director role will possess a high level of creativity and exceptional problem-solving skills to develop and implement the next generation of IT infrastructure.

In partnership with the AVP and CTO, the Director will identify opportunities and risks for architecting the company's infrastructure solutions, including identification of competitive services, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of technical obstacles and hurdles.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Identify technology trends and the competitive landscape to assess opportunities to leverage technology advancements
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms for delivering the company's services.
  • Develop the roadmap through the design and deployment of timely infrastructure to power university business goals and applications
  • Participate in the development of project management processes to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately, and the organization's resources are used responsibly for the infrastructure landscape
  • Effectively build and sustain relationships focusing on employee development and growth. Develop and manage team of employees. Oversee and coordinate relationships with vendors.
  • Develop Infrastructure strategy and maintain Infrastructure roadmap of business solutions, operations, and architecture
  • Maintain a strong technology and systems development team; manage technical product development, integration services and the expanding internal systems infrastructure.
  • Proactively strive to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of workflow throughout the organization through strong coordination and communication across disciplines and departments.
  • In partnership with the Director of Systems and Cloud Solutions, manage a growing portfolio of cloud based and on-premise IT services which include, collaboration systems, security services, file/print, IoT, machine Learning, artificial intelligence and other enterprise platforms as required.
  • Effectively coordinate with the IT service desk function and expand this capability to meet the needs of the university's support system
  • Develop IT operations procedures that will be used to govern day-to-day operations and comply with university and security policy.
  • Manage and implement IT security infrastructure and maintain/administer IT security program requirements set forth by the AVP and Chief Information Security Officer
  • Collaborate with internal university partners on the identification design and implementation of next gen technologies
  • Work as a technical leader within the university to develop a highly motivated team with the ability to see the big picture as well as address the technical and non-technical details of a project.


Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development, management, and support of architecture, maintenance and customization of internal and remote campuses network environments, including development of alternative approaches with a focus on technology of the future.

Direct staff through the selection and management process, from design through deployment to maintenance of Northeastern's network infrastructure.

Design, implement, and maintain scalable, highly available, secure and fault tolerant network systems

Direction and development of application and monitoring toolsets as it pertains to network operations and telecommunications

In collaboration with Office of Information Security, Design infrastructure solutions to meet Northeastern University security standards.

Identify and implement appropriate use of Hybrid-Cloud architectural best practices and other technology of the future.

Analyze application portfolios, identifying dependencies & common infrastructure platform components, and assessing migration feasibility.

Help to design, develop and continuously improve delivered services including network, firewall, wiring and fiber infrastructure, DNS, DHCP, NTP and IPAM

Cost/Benefit modelling with mapping to business KPIs.

Collaborate with internal customer business, development and infrastructure teams providing technical expertise and guidance.

Assist internal customers to architect scalable, highly available application solutions that leverage cloud services

Develop and maintain vendor partnerships to identify and leverage resources internal and external to enhance capabilities that support business objectives

Implement DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration and automated deployment (CI/CD)

Mentor junior members in usage and administration of existing and new cloud and infrastructure technologies.

Outreach to technical managers throughout campus to create an inclusive team of technical campus leaders

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have 10 years of experience in designing and administering systems infrastructure Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible, related technical experience including at least 5 years computer/system design experience required. At least 4 years' experience in successful task leadership or supervisory role, demonstrating strong organizational and task leadership skills.

IT experience as a technical specialist.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including group leadership and executive presentations.

BS level technical degree required; Computer Science or Math background preferred or equivalent experience; MS degree desired.

Deep hands-on experience leading the design, development and deployment of technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization experience.

Technical writing skills for documenting environments and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges.

Experience with deploying systems on-premises and in the cloud
