Join our Student Support Services team and help our students reach their goals. The Student Support Services Advisors will be the main source of academic and career advising for SSS participants. This position will create and maintain systems to ensure that eligible TRIO participants are seamlessly connected to SSS in order to advance the major goals of SSS which include increased retention, graduation and transfer rates among the program’s target population.

 

A federal TRIO Student Support Services grant funds this position. The purpose of the Student Support Services Program (SSS) is to increase the number of disadvantaged low-income college students, first-generation college students, and college students with disabilities in the United States who successfully complete a program of study at the postsecondary level (US Department of Education). Funding is available for the five-year period of the grant; MSUN has received TRIO SSS grants for over two decades. The current grant year is the first in a five-year period.

 

This is a 10-month position with June and July off.

 

Live and work in beautiful, north-central Montana, with access to mountains, rivers, lakes, the high plains and prairies, and  vibrant Havre community that supports Montana State University-Northern and offers civic opportunities, community theatre, and a fun downtown. Havre is the county seat for Hill County.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates an academic success program for students while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering participant success and retention
  2. Coordinates services for SSS participants including, but not limited to: tutoring, course advisement, academic coaching, accessibility, career services, peer mentoring, and cultural enrichment activities and assistance in financial aid application
  3. Develop individualized plans for participants and monitor them on a regular basis.
  4. Records attendance and individualized comments for each participant after each session. Documents progress, goals, to-do list, and any other information requiring follow-up

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Minimum 2 years professional experience in an educational setting
  3. Training or demonstrated experience in services and services that address the needs of low income and first-generation college students.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated knowledge or experience in interpersonal relationship building
  2. Experience working with academic policies that affect first generation and low income students
  3. Experience working with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
  4. Experience in education planning or advising, career guidance, financial aid/financial literary or related student service
