Associate Dean - Educator Preparation Programs

The Associate Dean for Educator Preparation Programs works in cooperation with departments offering educator preparation programs and school leadership programs. The associate dean is engaged with these department in design and approval of curriculum, accreditation and assessment, as well as field experiences.  The associate dean supervises the director of field experiences and the certification officer. The associate dean is responsible for communication with external constituencies including P-12 partners and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a field directly related to P-12 education or education leadership; education specialist degree is a plus
  • Holds or held teacher certification
  • Three or more years experience in P-12 schools (includes supervisory experience) and/or Three or more years faculty experience in educator preparation in an institution of higher learning
  • Experience with accreditation of teacher preparation programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement assessment programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop professional relationships with stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the role of state rules and laws in the context of educator preparation and certification
  • Knowledge of issues affecting historically marginalized groups and demonstrated ability to incorporate that information while interacting with representatives of those groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities

Department Information:  The College of Education, Health and Human Studies at Southeast Missouri State University consists of 110 faculty, 2,400 undergraduate majors, 620 graduate majors in seven academic departments. The Dean of the College oversees the departments of Child and Family Studies; Communication Disorders; Elementary, Early, and Special Education; Leadership, Middle and Secondary Education; Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Recreation; Nursing; and Psychology and Counseling. The associate dean serves as a member of the Dean’s leadership team along with the department chairs and is a voting member on the College Council. In the absence of the dean the associate dean serves in that capacity.
