Position Summary:

This position functions under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) and provides administrative assistance to clinical faculty, research faculty and administration including coordinating complex daily clinical, academic, and administrative and research activities. The incumbent may also provide medical administrative program assistance to other department faculty and clinic employees as required.

This position requires excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications and computer skills. This position will work with highly sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis and must be able to work independently, be self-directed, and be able to define projects and prioritize workload to complete tasks and operations related to projects with minimal direction.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Associate or Bachelor degree preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum 2 years experience working in an office setting required
Experience with Microsoft Suite products required
Experience with Word Press and Box desirable

Knowledge and Skills:
1. Professional writing skills to reflect and maintain the positive and professional image of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
2. Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
3. Thorough knowledge of University's administrative and financial procedures and policies and ability to interpret and explain them to staff.
4. Computer ability. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and online scheduling software (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, WordPress, etc.), as well as the ability to effectively learn and use university-based applications as they are implemented. Ability to solve basic computing problems.
5. Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment and maintain confidentiality.
6. Ability to manage many detailed projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, administrative personnel, outside entities and the public.
8. Attention to detail.
9. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
