The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities ( CASSH ) includes departments and programs in the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies, as well departments in the School of Visual and Performing Arts ( VPA ). CASSH / VPA continues the established liberal studies tradition of providing curricula leading to the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree.
CASSH / VPA is dedicated to providing quality innovative instruction and creative learning experiences which prepares students for future careers and education. More broadly, such learning allows students to continue to develop meaningful, responsible lives. The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities ( CASSH ) at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, is recruiting a new colleague in the graduate School Psychology Program for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start August 2020. The School Psychology Program is housed within the Psychology Department and has a strong record of educating future school psychologists who positively impact children’s learning outcomes. The program grants an Education Specialist degree and is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists ( NASP ). This position is affiliated with the School of Education, Professional, and Continuing Education ( EPC ) and the dean of the EPC will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews to the department. School of Education affiliated faculty are expected to be engaged in service and scholarly activities that inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Some additional work hours outside the academic school year may be required in order to align duties with the PK-12 school year. Position Description: The four full-time faculty in the program operate as a team and rely on individual and collective strengths. As such, we prefer an applicant who can contribute in one or more of the following ways: engage in high impact teaching practices on the diagnosis and positive change of behavior concerns in children and adolescent; increase community engagement and collaboration with schools and other community institutions serving children and adolescents; experience and/or interest in grant writing; and experience and/or interest in online programming. Graduate teaching expectations are a 3-3 course load and may include courses, such as Behavior Assessment & Management, Psychological Consultation & Collaboration, and other courses within the applicant’s interest area. Other graduate duties include supervision of Ed.S. capstone projects and supervision of student practica and internships. Occasional undergraduate course offerings appropriate to the candidate’s training and expertise are a possibility. Consistent with our practitioner/scholar training philosophy, we offer a two-credit reassignment to work in local schools on a rotating basis. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active scholarship agenda, and providing service to the department, university, community, and profession. Academic year salary is competitive and commensurate with experience with excellent fringe benefits and insurance programs.
General position summary statement for UWL faculty positions:
Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and advising students. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. The individual is expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline. In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
• Earned (or nearly completed) doctorate in School Psychology, or a closely related field, by August 31, 2020. The degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2021.
• At least one year of School Psychology experience or the equivalent, as approved by the EPC Dean, in prekindergarten through grade 12 settings.
• A strong commitment to training in and identity with School Psychology.
• Evidence of potential for effective teaching and research involving students in higher education settings.
• Expertise in behavior assessment and intervention.
• Interest/expertise in collaborating with community agencies to develop high impact learning opportunities for students.
• Interest/evidence in federal and external grant writing.
• Interest/expertise in the design and delivery of online learning opportunities.
• At least three years of School Psychology experience or the equivalent, as approved by the EPC Dean, in prekindergarten through grade 12 settings.
