Summary:
Summary
Utah Valley University is seeking a Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We are interested in applicants who are innovative, visionary, collaborative, and who demonstrates a passion to envision the next era of inclusive excellence and provide leadership in the development, engagement, coordination, and implementation of initiatives, programming, and services that foster inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and opportunity. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer (CIDO), the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion assists to advance the institution's strategic inclusion and diversity objectives, connecting with internal members of the campus community and provide guidance and support to executive leadership as well as to faculty, staff, and students as needed. The Director will build on UVU's nationally recognized strategic Inclusion and Diversity plan and efforts. This position provides an exciting opportunity for a leader to work with a collaborative administrative team and an engaged faculty, staff, and student body to advance the institutional core theme of Inclusion. Utah County demographics have seen a dramatic shift over the past 10 years and community projections show that such growth in diversity will continue. UVU's inaugural Director will help continue operationalizing a powerful vision for a dynamic institution that has been committed to equity and diversity, as well as to excellent academic programs and student success, for over 75 years.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
-Develop, refine and lead educational workshops and professional development on diversity, equity, and inclusion-related education for University employees through the Foundations of Inclusion Workshop Series
-Co-chair and participate in committees with students, staff, and faculty on the annual Martin Luther King (MLK) Commemoration, Foundations of Inclusion, and other relevant committees under our purview
-Lead, organize, coordinate, and execute the annual Champions of Inclusion banquet and awards, including the application process and review
-Organize and lead educational workshops and trainings in our Foundations of Inclusion Workshop Series
-Design, market, and disseminate announcements to the campus community on events and activities related to inclusion and diversity
-Oversee necessary updates to the Inclusion website
-Actively maintain knowledge of national trends and best practices (through research or otherwise) related to diversity and inclusion through research to inform stronger cross-cultural awareness, practices, initiatives, and institutional alignment.
-Nurture collaborative and engaging relationships with internal and external constituents to provide effective leadership in the coordination of all diversity-related programs and initiatives with the campus community
-Foster and maintain an effective, holistic, and integrated vision and welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the community at large
-Perform other duties as assigned by the CIDO

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education, or closely related field and five or more years of full-time professional experience in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity, and/or access. (A relevant advanced degree may be substituted for professional work experience on a year-for-year basis not to exceed two years).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent command and demonstrated understanding of historical and contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism concepts and issues in higher education
• Strong leadership qualities and skills are essential; collaborative teamwork, credibility, sound judgement, high degree of integrity and creative problem solving
• Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff and students across all levels
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as are demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex and competing activities
• Attention to detail with excellent organizational and tracking skills
• Ability to collaborate with others and develop professional alliances as a primary means to achieve results
• Commitment to providing the highest level of service and responsiveness; and supporting and responding to students with diverse needs
• Ability to display diplomacy and tact in all communication
• Ability to independently manage a variety of projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
• Demonstrated ability to lead without direct authority, manage the process and people side of change, and influence results with emotional intelligence
• Ability to make decisions independently, outstanding organizational skills, excellent judgment, and a high level of self-motivation and accountability
• Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to contribute to the successful achievement of the University’s mission
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Demonstrated ability to work with, and lead educational workshops and trainings.
• Demonstrated analytical, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to create a culture of collaboration with all campus constituents.
• Demonstrated understanding of diversity related issues and programming in higher education.
• Demonstrated experience creating and delivering training to employees and/or students.
• Demonstrated exceptional effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Leadership and diversity experience in a college environment
• Training and experience leading equity, diversity, and inclusion programming


Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution in critical educational studies, organizational development; instructional design and intercultural, Ethnic Studies, or a related field with significant coursework and demonstrated in-depth knowledge of theories and practices of inclusive excellence within the field of higher education


Physical Requirements:
This position will perform duties in a standard office setting.

Pay Range: $47,667 - $74,535
