Position Summary:

WSLH Proficiency Testing (WSLH PT) provides a broad range of services to approximately 3000 laboratory customers throughout the US and several foreign countries. Over 150 different services are offered and scheduled on multiple ship dates throughout the year. After testing simulated patient samples, laboratory customers return data to us via online entry. When data evaluation is complete, reports are sent to the customers. Scores from PT challenges are also sent to national accreditation agencies which use PT data to monitor customer performance. Significant monetary penalties and/or cease testing orders may be issued to laboratories demonstrating poor performance on PT challenges.

This position serves as the initial contact for the department and uses extensive knowledge of our business to provide timely and reliable response to customer phone and email inquiries and/or appropriately direct inquiries to other staff members. This position also works closely with technical coordinators and management on a variety of critical business processes. In addition, this position helps create shipment paperwork using complex software. Shipment packing rotations and certification/training of biohazard shipping process are required. Substantial knowledge of the business cycle, medical laboratory terminology and custom departmental software is required.

Position duties include: Entering/editing demographic, accreditation, billing and order information into the PT databases, creating/editing forms, and responding to customer questions via phone and email. Competent use of the department's database is demonstrated by the ability to easily navigate multiple screens for accurate entry and/or modification of customer information, generate and print reports and recognize problems. Provide support to customers using online applications for report retrieval and result entry; enter/update customer demographic and accreditation agency information and orders in the appropriate software application; use knowledge of medical terminology to answer customer inquiries regarding appropriate PT services for their clinic or hospital's laboratory testing menu; refer customers to the correct technical coordinator (e.g., hematology, coagulation, blood bank, etc.) for higher level questions; and contact customer accounts for additional information. Create shipment paperwork using business knowledge and printing software application. Collate shipment paperwork and reports for PT programs. Assist in the packing of shipments on a rotational basis. Use of MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, Adobe at an intermediate level is necessary to maintain current documentation.
