Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of a Research Scientist are to conduct studies, analyze, and present experimental data related to retinal disease. Investigation involves both analytical and in vitro laboratory studies. This position requires meticulous note taking, the ability to work independently with only minimal supervision and willingness to work with human tissues, including, but not limited to, eyes, brain, and blood. Other responsibilities include writing and troubleshooting protocols, ordering supplies for the lab, liaising between the Principal investigator’s lab and collaborators, and managing the day-to-day operations of the lab. This is a grant-funded position, with current funding.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of a M.A. or M.S. in the biological sciences is required. Individual needs to have experience in modern molecular biology (next generation sequencing library preparation, PCR, RT- PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis), cell biology (light microscopy/histology, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence/confocal microscopy), biochemistry (western blot), and mammalian cell culture methods (maintenance, transfection, transduction). Expertise is expected in routine computer use, database searching, and in using and learning new software programs (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Image-J, etc.). Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary. Expertise in daily laboratory organization, planning, and operations is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Senior level knowledge in a molecular biology laboratory;
Extensive mammalian cell culture preferred; iPS cell culture experience.
