A postdoctoral associate position in mammalian synthetic biology is available in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. We are looking for a creative, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in doing path-breaking research in the area of synthetic regulatory network engineering.

The lab ( https://bioengineering.rice.edu/caleb-j-bashor ) is located in the BRC building, situated between Rice University campus and Texas Medical Center, which offers state-of-the art facilities and excellent working conditions amidst a vibrant biomedical research community. Rice has an active postdoctoral training community (https://graduate.rice.edu/postdocs) and features a broad, world-class synthetic biology research community.

Education Required

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate

Major/Discipline

Bioengineering, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or applied physics

Experience Preferred Skills Required

- Knowledge of molecular biology
- Familiarity with mammalian tissue culture and cloning
- Familiarity with gene expression control in mammalian cells
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as oral presentation skills
- Organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses
- Able to work in a collaborative environment
- Able to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction

Depending on the project space, the incumbent:
- Designs and tests synthetic mammalian signaling and transcriptional circuitry for use in cell-based therapeutics
- Leverages synthetic circuitry to rewire immune cell function for therapeutic drug delivery
- Documents, analyzes, and maintains research data
- Assists with proposal development to obtain research funding
- Writes scholarly papers based on ongoing research and submits them to journals for publication
- Publishes and presents research findings
- Supports project management and collaboration across institutions or disciplines
- Provides academic services (ie. teaching classes) to the department as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
