The UAFS campus is comprised of 77 buildings and facilities located on 170 beautifully manicured acres and crowned with the Donald W. Reynolds Campus Plaza, Tower, and Campus Green. Students who choose to live on campus may do so in one of two residence hall complexes, complete with a full-service dining center, or the on-campus apartment complex for married students and upperclassmen. Campus involvement is encouraged by participation in more than 100 registered student organizations, which includes academic societies, a dynamic Greek life system, intramural sports, and cultural/special interest groups. The UAFS Lions compete in NCAA Division II Lonestar Conference in men’s baseball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, golf, cross country, and tennis.

About the College / Department Position Summary

The program director will have full-time responsibility for the administration and evaluation of the program and ultimately for the program’s success. The program director will plan, direct, and manage the SSS program and will report directly to the TRIO Director to ensure that the program is properly integrated with other support services of the university. The program director serves as the grant liaison among the university programs and services needed for successful implementation of the SSS program. The position reports to Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. This position is governed by the policies of the institution.

Summary of Job Duties

• Direct the program staff in the planning, development, and implementation of the programs’ activities and services.
• Oversee and evaluate the grant’s programmatic activities and services.
• Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate all program personnel.
• Oversee the recruitment and the student selection process.
• Administer, coordinate, and insure grant compliance requirements, grant management; submit grant documents and reports.
• Document participant success with program objectives.
• Review assigned participants’ APP contracts and monitor progress to provide support services.
• Establish and enforce all project policies and procedures.
• Oversee, authorize, and monitor expenditures of federal funds.
• Insure equal access to program services for all students.
• Coordinate accommodations for SSS students with special needs.
• Review assigned participants’ APP contracts and monitor progress to provide support services.
• Provide intrusive academic, career, and financial aid advisement.
• Monitor the student’s registration and degree plan through graduation.
• Serve as the student advocate to promote student success.
• Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or above) in college student personnel, educational administration, developmental studies or academic discipline with strong job-related experience.
• Three years’ of administrative experience in an educational setting.
• Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these basic requirements.

License(s)/Certifications Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities
• Broad academic background and experience in student tracking systems
• Preference given to individuals who are former TRIO participants or who have overcome barriers similar to the TRIO student population
• Experience in academic needs assessment and analysis
• Experience with TRIO or other federal grant programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
• Working knowledge of federally funded programs for economically disadvantaged students is preferred
• Knowledge of developmental and basic core curriculum, study skills, test taking, and life skill presentations
• Knowledge of various software programs including Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Knowledge of designing, implementing, and evaluating academic/diagnostic programs and activities
• Strong management, supervision, and team building skills
• Planning and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize work activities and use time efficiently
• Organizational and detail oriented
• Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
• Ability to articulate and deal positively with diverse populations
• Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality

Special Job Dimensions

Work performed primarily in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pound. Occasional travel may be required. Occasional night and weekend activities required. Continued funding from the Department of Education is dependent on the level of performance of the program in relation to the objectives stated in the grant proposal.

Work Schedule

Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
