The Director of Real Estate leads the university real estate team in developing strategies to implement the institution's master plan and support the space needs of all academic and medical center units. Directs the team of real estate professionals in the completion of all university real estate projects, including: leases, acquisitions, dispositions, easements, licenses, and mineral rights agreements. Supervises the management of university properties assigned to department, including office, residential, retail, industrial, and warehouse uses. Oversees administration of university lease portfolio, which consists of more than 340 active leases totaling more than 2.7 million square feet and $252 million in value. Responsible for property data and records management. Represents university with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services and before the Ohio Legislature as necessary. Develops and oversees department strategic goals, annual budgets, staffing plans, staff performance evaluations, staff training and development plans, and staff recognition initiatives. SUPERVISES: Assistant Directors, Real Estate Coordinators, and Assistant Real Estate Coordinators.

Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience in real estate brokerage, real estate investment, facility management, business administration, and/or real estate law; minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role within a real estate department; broad familiarity and experience with a wide array of real estate transactions; general understanding of lease administration and property management processes; ability to negotiate for and achieve desired deal terms; contract drafting, review, and interpretation.  

Desired: Experience in a real estate department within a university or corporation; site selection and development expertise; accounting and/or finance training; interpretation of financial reports; property management; real estate license; legal training; specialized training from industry-oriented providers such as International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), or Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).
