The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) in the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a full time tenure-track, open rank faculty position beginning Fall 2021 in the area of Machine Learning, Deep Learning or related Data-Driven high throughput techniques in Mechanical Engineering applications. 

 

We seek a candidate within the specific area of machine learning and deep learning applied to multiple focused areas of mechanical and materials engineering such as advanced manufacturing, thermo-fluids, computational mechanics, robotics, structural health monitoring, and new materials development. The candidate must be able to complement the existing teaching resources at FIU with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or related Data-Driven techniques. 

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field of engineering with a focus on machine learning and data science, demonstrated a record of scholarly work commensurate with rank and commitment to teaching a diverse set of undergraduate and graduate students in the area Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and service, with an emphasis on an externally funded research program of international reputation. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other faculty members in MME and other departments in the CEC and FIU. Currently, the MME department participates in large multi-university projects such as NSF ERC, DOE-MSIPP, and NASA-MIRO. Candidates should complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths in research and teaching.
