Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana invites applications for the position of Department Head in the Department of Biological Sciences. Preference will be given to candidates that possess leadership skills and/or have personnel management experience. The successful applicant must also have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, and expertise that complements the strengths of the department. Commensurate experience should be reflected in the application letter. To be considered for the position, applicants must have a Ph.D. in any area of Biology and must have credentials that warrant appointment at the academic rank of associate or full professor.

This twelve-month position is primarily responsible for advancing the culture of academic distinction where excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service is expected. The Department Head is responsible for the planning, direction, and development of the department as well as budget management. The Department Head serves as the link between the faculty and the central administration and is expected to provide leadership for curriculum development, implementation, and assessment of student learning. The Department Head should be a driving force behind the development and enhancement of research programs, scholarly efforts, as well as strategic initiatives that focus on the recruiting/retention of a diverse and inclusive student population. Finally, the successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and will be encouraged to maintain a research program appropriate in a department with both an undergraduate and master's level degree program.

Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond, less than 50 miles from the metropolitan centers of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Southeastern has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 14,000. The Department of Biological Sciences has more than 40 faculty, and approximately 875 undergraduate majors in five concentrations: Ecology/Environmental/Evolutionary Biology; Microbiology/Molecular Biology, Integrative Biology, Plant Science, and Biology Education. The Department also has 25 graduate students in our MS degree program.  

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in any area of Biology by hire date and must have credentials that warrant appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.  

Must possess leadership skills and/or have personnel management experience. The successful applicant must also have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, and expertise that complements the strengths of the department. Commensurate experience should be reflected in the application letter.
