Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now hiring an Associate Director of Undergraduate Research at the Daytona Beach campus. The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is a student-centered office that focuses on engaging students’ curiosity and passion within a faculty-mentored research experience. OUR provides a diverse set of opportunities for all undergraduate students to enhance their educational experience while at ERAU from classroom-based experience to student-led multiyear projects. Members of the OUR Team have a passion for student success and making the most of their opportunities at ERAU. Each member of our three-person team works independently within a collaborative and supportive environment that strives for professional and departmental growth.

The Associate Director of Undergraduate Research is responsible for the day-to-day management of student programming and development opportunities of the Daytona Beach Office of Undergraduate Research, including workshops, on-campus research symposium, undergraduate conferences, and the undergraduate research journal. The Associate Director will work with the Director for Undergraduate Research to assess the operational outcomes of all programming, procedures, and policies and in furthering the mission of the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR).

Primary responsibilities include the following:

Undergraduate Research Programming
The Associate Director will hold primary responsibility to:

  • Oversee student-facing communications, including departmental newsletter.
  • Organize, market, and advise OUR Ambassador Program.
  • Manage the hiring, training, and supervising of all student assistants to ensure the Office of Undergraduate Research is adequately staffed to meet operational needs with assistance from the Business Manager.
  • Oversee the development, marketing, and presentation of educational workshops.
  • Assist students in the development of research initiatives through matching students with faculty mentors, campus resources, and existing research programs.
  • Coordinate with the Director to host a campus research symposium each semester.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for student researchers.
    • Facilitate marketing, printing, and implementation/logistics of poster session.
    • Assist Director in planning/implementing the event reception, programming, and awards
  • Assist the Director in facilitating the Discovery Scholars pre-orientation program.
  • Coordinate student participation in and accompany students to the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference, National Conference on Undergraduate Research, and other undergraduate research conferences and events as approved by the Director.
  • Assist in the selection of grant recipients.


Undergraduate Research Journal
The Associate Director will:

  • Promote student submission of research work to the undergraduate research journal, coordinating with Prescott and Worldwide undergraduate research teams to ensure submissions from all three campuses.
  • Maintain the digital submissions of student work, from receipt to publication.
  • Oversee the design, format, and publication of electronic journal.
  • Recruit and train student editorial board.
  • Assist the Director as needed in reviewing articles.


Marketing
The Associate Director will:

  • Oversee student-facing social media and marketing initiatives.
  • Update content as needed on the OUR external and internal webpages.
  • Supervise the student social media assistant.


Assessment
The Associate Director will:

  • Coordinate with the Director to facilitate the assessment activities associated with accreditation as directed by University Administration.
  • Assist in the annual assessment of department programming, policies, and procedures with the collection of data and artifacts and the development and implementation of a strategic plan.


Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, STEM, Social Science field, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience. Will consider graduate assistantships as work experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently to handle multiple, complex tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing and new work assignments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with multiple audiences including students, faculty, administrators, and other staff members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to relate well to and motivate students.
  • Ability to speak and present to a variety of internal and external audiences.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with marketing and managing social media.
  • Understanding of the research process and ability to mentor students through it.
  • Experience with CampusSolutions/PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Adobe InDesign.
  • Knowledge of ERAU policies and procedures.
