The Aeronautical Science Department in the College of Aviation (COA) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University—Daytona Beach invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach in the Aeronautical Science undergraduate program. Our program draws students from around the world and prepares graduates to enter the aviation industry as professional pilots.

The Aeronautical Science Department hosts the largest degree program for professional pilots in the world and is one of the largest departments on the Daytona Beach Campus that houses three undergraduate degrees focusing on professional aviation. At the Daytona Beach Campus, the B.S. in Aeronautical Science degree program blends flight training with academic study to provide a firm foundation in airlines, corporate and commercial aviation, or military aviation. In addition to a comprehensive academic and general education core, the curriculum includes FAA certification as a multi-engine, instrument-rated commercial pilot. Our fleet includes Diamond DA42s, Cessna 172s, Level 6 FTDs, and a Bombardier CRJ 200 Level D Simulator. Based on enrollments and fleet size, Embry-Riddle has the largest civilian flight training fleet in the United States. Teaching excellence is our top priority along with applied research in aviation related areas. Key to our mission is providing effective mentoring and advising to our students as they prepare to enter the industry. The Aeronautical Science program is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI).

This position requires a broad base of aviation knowledge and experience. Teaching areas will be in FAA approved private, instrument, and commercial courses leading to students successfully passing the knowledge tests required to obtain the specific FAA certificates. Courses may also include, but are not limited to, teaching upper level courses in safety, flight and cockpit resource management systems and concepts. There may be opportunities to teach jet transport aerodynamics and performance as well as jet transport systems, turbine engines, and airline operations. In addition to teaching responsibilities, duties will include curriculum development and committee participation on Department and University levels. The candidate will also have a strong interest in pursuing scholarship and professional activities appropriate to advancing aviation education and aviation interests in the industry.

This nine-month term, tenure track position will begin in January 2021.

Qualifications :

Required minimum qualifications:
FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with considerable experience as a pilot in civil or military aviation. At a minimum, the position requires single-engine and instrument ratings, a Flight Instructor Certificate with airplane single-engine and instrument rating instruction privileges or an Advanced FAA Ground Instructor Certificate. An earned doctorate with a record of published research and scholarly activities. A strong interest in the pursuit of grants associated with aviation research projects opportunities.

Preferred qualifications:
FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a turbojet type rating or FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate. Part 121/135 line experience or comparable military flight or training experience.
