ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT / RETENTION SPECIALIST

The Administrative Assistant/Retention Specialist position is a full-time career service position. The Administrative Assistant/Retention Specialist will perform duties in support of the Veteran Student Support Services grant relating to the programs, services, and resources available to assist in the recruitment and retention of veteran students; establish a network of resources within the organization to assist in recruitment and outside the organization to assist in retention, graduation, and transfer efforts; prepare timely written reports, graphs, and statistical data on recruitment and retention efforts; screen and direct general office communications, maintain all files, be responsible for all administrative office functions; and relieve the Director of administrative detail with considerable latitude for exercising judgment and discretion. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant/Retention Specialist will assist the Academic Advisor/Life Skills Counselors with peer coach management; develop recruiting materials, letters, flyers, and brochures to be used in support of the grant; and represent the program by giving presentations at various activities such as college/job fairs and departmental meetings. This position reports to the Director, Veteran Student Support Services. This is a grant-funded position.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree and four years office/administrative experience. College coursework may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer experience in administrative and microcomputer applications. Preference will be given to candidate who is a military veteran and to qualified individuals from a background similar to the target population.

Annual Salary: $27,825.00 ($14.23hr)
