2020/2021 MANAGEMENT SALARY RANGE: Grade 8: $45,186.35 - $47,467.14 - $49,836.81 - $52,384.20 - $55,005.63 - $57,760.34/year
WORK SCHEDULE M - F, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

BENEFITS
The District shall contribute up to $29,759.88 per fiscal year toward employee and dependent(s) medical/dental coverage; contribute $1,500 per fiscal year toward dependent(s) or employee medical/dental coverage or other approved deductions consistent with IRS regulations; provide life insurance of a minimum of $50,000 or a maximum not to exceed the annual salary of the employee. Holidays, sick days, and vacation are earned in accordance with the CSEA contract. Payroll deductions include the California Public Employees' Retirement System and Social Security.

JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASS SUMMARY

Under general supervision performs a wide variety of gardening and grounds keeping work in the planting, spraying, fertilizing, pruning, and maintaining of lawns, athletic fields, plants, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas; performs related duties as required.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Plants and cultivates trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs, and sprays for the control of pests and plant diseases; maintains landscaped areas; cuts and edges lawns and borders; uses fertilizer as needed; sets up portable pipes for watering athletic fields; does some hand watering; prepares soil for various kinds of planting; seeds new lawns; operates power lawn mowers, sprayers, trucks, skip loaders, and tractors; maintains and cleans mowing equipment; installs and maintains sprinkler systems; prepares stadium and field for athletic games and cleans and repairs fields and facilities following events; assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment for special events; performs other grounds keeping and maintenance duties as required and assigned, such as installing and maintaining fences, repairing black- top, cement work, and repairs to pipe-lines.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Positions in this class report to the Maintenance Supervisor or designee, coordinate with campus programs and may work in teams. Positions are often assigned to projects where work is performed without close supervision.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Training & Experience

One year of gardening or grounds keeping experience.

Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of: the characteristics of common plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and grasses; fertilizers and proper fertilizing methods; gardening materials, tools, and equipment, and their use and care; sprinkler systems and tools and equipment used in their maintenance and repair.

Ability to: follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with instructors, students, and others; keep simple records.

License: a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Physical Requirements: performs more strenuous physical work, including heavy lifting.

Interview
