The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas Tech University invites applications from innovative and thoughtful colleagues to join our program at the rank of an Assistant or Associate Professor in Curriculum Studies. We encourage scholars of multicultural curriculum and culturally diverse pedagogies to apply. This tenure-track position with a nine-month academic year appointment will start August 16, 2021.

We are seeking highly qualified applicants who have expertise in curriculum studies with a strong background in curriculum theory, curriculum development and design, multicultural curriculum and culturally diverse pedagogies. The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda that centers around issues of equity and social justice in EC-12 education, working across different disciplines and promoting interdisciplinary educational research. The successful candidate will also work closely with face-to-face and online doctoral students to prepare them to be competitive in their aspiring professional fields. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the department’s goals of continued excellence and innovation in teaching, advising, scholarship, outreach, and service. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Responsibilities of the successful candidate:

  • Teaching curriculum foundations and theory courses at the master’s and doctoral level, offered face-to-face, online, or in a blended/hybrid format
  • Chairing doctoral students’ dissertations as well as serving as a committee member for master’s and doctoral students.
  • Collaborating and cooperating with colleagues to fulfill the needs of the department’s and college’s strategic goals
  • Establishing and maintaining a rigorous research agenda
  • Actively participating in department, college, and university committees
  • Seeking extramural funding
  • Developing and fostering partnerships with school districts, other colleges, and universities
  • Providing leadership for local, state, national, and international education organizations


Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Curriculum Studies, or a closely related field, by May 2021
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Commitment to advising doctoral students
  • Evidence of an emerging research agenda through peer-reviewed journal publications as well as national/international conference presentations
  • Potential to seek extramural grant funding
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department, college, and university


Preferred Qualifications:

  • K-12 teaching experience
  • University teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Experience in teaching curriculum courses
  • Experience in chairing doctoral dissertations
  • Experience in integrating multicultural experiences in instruction, research and pedagogical techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Evidence of maintaining a rigorous research agenda, particularly on issues of equity, social justice, and community engagement
  • Contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion with particular attention to formal and informal mentoring activities
  • Experience in securing extramural grant funding
  • Evidence of being a team player in an institution
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional organizations at local, state, national and international levels
