Assistant Professor of Sociology (Criminology) - Tenure-track

 

The Department of Sociology & Anthropology at DePauw University invites applications for a tenure-track position in sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2021. Ph.D. in sociology (by the time of appointment) is required. The successful candidate will have research and teaching experience in critical criminology. Possible topics could include, but are not limited to, surveillance and policing, gentrification and crime, crimes of resistance, neighborhood stigma, the school-to-prison pipeline, and immigration, crime, and enforcement. In addition to offering electives in criminology, candidates must be able to contribute to teaching all sociology core courses including introductory sociology, social theory, research methods, and senior seminar. A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment and evidence of effective teaching are essential along with an ongoing commitment to inclusive pedagogy and high-impact practices in teaching and learning. This position includes employee health and retirement benefits, mentoring, and faculty development funding. The teaching load is three courses per semester, in addition to a half-credit course taught every third year during DePauw’s month-long winter term.
