The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Director of Internal Audit at our System Office located in the beautiful Arboretum Business Park off the Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond, Virginia. The Director of Internal Audit is a faculty rank position that reports to the chancellor of the VCCS and the State Board for Community Colleges. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a comprehensive audit program, and supervising the examination of the operations of 23 community colleges, the System Office, and the VCCS Shared Services Center. This position must establish an annual audit strategy, audit plan and audit scope for review and approval by the Internal Audit Committee of the State Board. This position establishes and maintains the policies of the audit activity and directs its technical and administrative functions. The Director recommends improvements in managerial and internal accounting controls designed to safeguard the System’s resources. This position also represents the Audit Division on the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Advisory Council of Presidents, and other committees as deemed necessary.

Qualifications
To accomplish the above, the ideal candidate must have a master’s degree in a business-related field, significant experience as an auditor and a manager, and a working knowledge of financial and accounting systems. A CPA certificate or CIA certificate and experience in a higher education institution or anon-profit organization are all preferred selection criteria. Applicants should possess excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work with individuals from across an organization at various levels.

The ideal candidate will also be able to establish and sustain the reputation of the audit function as a strong advisory resource for the organization.
