The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, responsible for providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care to both ambulatory patients and inpatients. Educates and manages care in the antepartum and postpartum continuum.

The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the State of Maryland. The Nurse Practitioner is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Johns Hopkins center at White Marsh, and the Johns Hopkins Hospital; these privileges are renewed annually.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

GYN/OB Clinic

  • Provides urgent and non-urgent care to antepartum and postpartum patients through one-on-one patient visits or through the obstetrical Centering Pregnancy model.
  • Cares for gynecologic patients seeking well-woman care or problem-focused gynecologic care (including abnormal bleeding, contraception, etc.).
  • Orders appropriate labs, ultrasounds, and consults as needed. Initiates contraception for postpartum patients (IUD-insertion and removals, OCP, Depo-Provera, etc.)
  • Conducts postpartum-evaluation, intervention, and care of postpartum patients. Provides appropriate teaching, education, and information with postpartum care. Also assists with lactation and family planning.
  • Serves as a resources and educator of medical and nursing students and residents.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Additional experience may substitute for master's degree.
  • Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHBMC credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing endometrial and vulva biopsies.
  • Experience in OB and prenatal care
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing and walking for extended period.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).
  • Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
