General Purpose/Summary:

This position has duties and responsibilities related to supporting the research efforts of the Principal Investigator (PI) with emphasis on a research study of the Latino community and its reaction to Covid-19. The primary responsibilities will include, but not limited to, working with the PI to write manuals of procedures to conduct telephone interviews with callers to the Covid-19 hotline, focus groups, and stakeholder interviews. In addition, he/she will be responsible for coding and qualitative analysis of the interviews. This position may also support the PI by conducting literature searches, assisting with manuscript preparation, and provide administrative support for grant applications. The RPC may also assist in the research development of manuscripts processed by various students that collaborate with the PI.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write protocol and interview guide for telephone interviews, focus groups, and stakeholder interviews.
  • Consent and enroll research participants.
  • Responsible for recruiting, coordinating and conducting interviews with hotline callers, focus groups, and stakeholders.
  • Code the transcripts of the interviews.
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis.
  • Conduct literature searches, assisting with manuscript preparation, and provide administrative support for grant applications.
  • Collaborate and draft manuscripts with students working with PI. Provides other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in related discipline.
  • Some experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some relevant research experience acquired through extracurricular activities, internships or work experience is desirable.

Special Skills and Knowledge:

  • Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, Principal Investigators, and other team members.
  • Interest in working with disadvantaged populations needed.
  • Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.
  • Facility in Spanish is desirable.

  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters;
  • Ability to reach, lift, carry, move items.
  • Ability to move about

***JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
