Job Description:

The Associate Provost for Campus Health and Wellness is responsible for driving transformation that will elevate the culture of health and wellness at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU). The Associate Provost for Campus Health and Wellness will help in developing and executing strategy that will improve and nurture multiple wellness dimensions, including emotional, mental, physical, financial, spiritual, and social wellness throughout KCU. This position will interface with administrative leadership at a high level and has authority to direct KCU’s wellness efforts. The Associate Provost for Campus Health and Wellness works closely with other institutional stakeholders and executive leadership in the effort to drive culture shift and improve leadership accountability on associate wellness. They will build upon these efforts by spearheading innovative, coordinated, and aligned initiatives to address physical, emotional, intellectual, and social wellness needs of KCU and the community. They will establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external constituents, focusing on direct responsibility for KCU wellness needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Requires substantial administrative and program-building experience; and demonstrated leadership as an innovator, convener, ambassador, collaborator, partner and catalyst in mobilizing leaders from various institutional and community sectors around wellness goals.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to a wide range of disciplines, interests and constituencies represented at KCU and a deep commitment to wellness as part of its public mission; the ability to design bold, creative and innovative initiatives; and the vision, charisma and collaborative acumen to command the respect and involvement of colleagues and community members to improve climate and outcomes.
  • Interface with administrative leadership at a high level and will be given authority to direct these efforts.
  • Provide strategic vision and direction to the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives to improve the organization’s health and wellbeing.
  • Serves as a strategist, leader, and change agent in driving system-level transformation to a culture of health and wellbeing.
  • Serves as a system-level advocate for clinical and non-clinical associates to protect and advance wellbeing at all levels.
  • Implements evidence-based outreach and awareness programs, communication strategies, and health education efforts to enhance the wellbeing of KCU.
  • Partners with operational leaders to conduct evidence-based improvement efforts that support overall wellbeing.
  • Identifies trends and makes recommendations or changes to existing programs to reflect organizational needs.
  • Regularly monitors and reports outcomes, including measures of engagement, professional fulfillment, health and wellbeing, and tracks how they change.
  • Oversees the business plan development for implementation and delivery of programs and services that support wellbeing.
  • Assembles data to design an annual and multi-year wellness strategic plan with estimated impact and cost.
  • Engages outside vendors as appropriate to assist in the execution of the health and wellness strategy.
  • Maintains awareness of national/local health issues, trends, and best practices; develops mechanisms to help associates prevent and/or respond to such issues.
  • Provides consultation to executive leadership, management, faculty, and staff regarding workplace health and wellness matters.
  • Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization


Other and Supportive Functions:

  • Maintains professional relationships with public and private health/mental health agencies, as well as with private practice providers.
  • Maintains awareness of federal and state imposed laws and regulations relevant to a workplace health and wellness program.
  • Stays abreast of trends and emerging strategic opportunities in the areas of occupational health, wellness, and health-related technological advancements.
  • Pursues/advances wellbeing research efforts where appropriate.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through effective budget management.
  • Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation)
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
  • Actively participate in team and University meetings


Qualifications:

  • MD/DO, DPN, PhD, PharmD, DPH, MSN (or equivalent)
  • Should the successful candidate be a medical or clinical professional who will choose to partake in clinical duties, they (or currently hold) applicable licensure in Missouri.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or equivalent academic credentials with a minimum of five years of progressive management experience in academic medicine is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical practice experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years health/wellness and people management experience preferred.
  • Occupational health experience a plus.
  • Evidence of commitment to improving wellness in the workplace as demonstrated by work experience, research, thought leadership, and/or publications.
  • Significant clinical experience, especially occupational or general health experience.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace healthcare issues, and a firm grasp of federal and state laws and regulations that govern workplace health and wellness matters.
  • Strong passion for associate wellbeing, for clinical excellence, and for applying the latest evidence-based research to improving wellness.
  • Proven experience leading a team in areas of change management, quality improvement, and care delivery.
  • Proven experience in cultivating relationships and leveraging them to improve outcomes and meet objectives.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and coach associates to continuously improve their performance and achieve positive outcomes for themselves, as well as for the programs they serve.
  • Record of accomplishment leading and motivating staff, encouraging accountability, and promoting adaptation, collaboration, and creativity.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to work effectively and harmoniously with associates at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with an ethnically, socio-economically, and socially diverse workforce.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
