DEAN, SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY
Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center

West Virginia University, a public land-grant university, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Dentistry. Founded in 1957, the school is one of five professional schools on the University's Health Sciences Campus in Morgantown. The School of Dentistry offers a unique opportunity for a visionary health professions leader and educator to promote oral health care education and treatment, service, innovation, public health policy, oral health advocacy, and research in collaboration with the schools of Medicine (including Allied Health), Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

The School of Dentistry is the only dental school in the state, and seeks to continue and expand its leadership role in educating the state's future dental professionals to meet the oral health needs of the citizens of West Virginia and the surrounding regions. Defined by innovation in education, patient care, research and service, the WVU School of Dentistry fosters the development of clinically competent graduates. The School of Dentistry's programs include the pre-doctoral DDS program, baccalaureate in dental hygiene, a general practice residency program (GPR), and advanced education programs in five American Dental Association recognized specialties: endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, periodontics, and prosthodontics. A sixth program, pediatric dentistry residency is in development. WVU is one of only four dental schools in the nation to host and operate an innovation center, the Center for Research & Education in Technology (CRET), as the W. Robert Biddington Center for Dental Innovation.

To build on its legacy and continue its pathways in clinical excellence and innovation, the School of Dentistry seeks a visionary academic leader with proven skills and experience in the administration and management of educational programs, clinics, teaching, service learning, oral health advocacy, innovation, research, development, and continuing education. The Dean oversees and guides the accreditation, strategic planning, fiscal management, academic curricula and outcomes assessment, the recruitment of outstanding faculty, students/residents and staff, physical facilities and space management, clinic operations, community outreach and service, fundraising, and collaboration with organized dentistry at the local, state, and national levels. As such, the Dean should create and implement a unifying vision for the School to meet the challenges of today while also advancing the reputation, vision, and strategic plans of the School, the Health Sciences Center, and West Virginia University.
