Clerkship Director (Emergency Medicine)

Job Summary:
The TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Phase II LIC Emergency Medicine Clerkship Director.
Clerkship Directors oversee the clinical education of Phase II medical students in their respective clerkship as part of the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship. The Clerkship Director is responsible for building and fostering a positive and inclusive academic and team-based learning environment for the TCU and UNTHSC medical students. The Clerkship Director assures comparability of educational experiences and equivalency of student assessment and feedback across all Clerkship Sites, and collaborates with SOM leadership to ensure vertical integration of the curriculum across the continuum of the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:
1. Works as part of team with the other clerkship director and senior director to create an Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship experience
2. Develops clerkship curriculum and teaching materials including the course syllabus that includes learning objectives and readings;
3. Collaborate with Clinical Clerkship sites and preceptors to create clinical education experiences that add value to student learning and competency;
4. Conduct evaluation of clerkship teaching faculty and teaching sites;
5. Recruits new faculty preceptors and clerkship teaching sites for all 60 medical students;
6. Coordinates teaching schedules for clerkship didactics and matches students to clerkship sites;
7. Develops and teaches in the clerkship didactic sessions (LeAPs);
8. Provides independent supervision and oversight of the clerkship program faculty and implementation of teaching program;
9. Participates in the assessment process and determines students’ grades and completes final grades and narratives within timelines set by the Assessment and Evaluation Office;
10. Conducts workshops, seminars and courses for medical students, trainees, and faculty;
11. Participates in various clinical duties in their specialty, which includes precepting medical students;
12. Service on School of Medicine curricular committees as assigned;
13. Evaluates all aspects of the clerkship and recommends and implements changes as appropriate;
14. Performs additional duties that may be assigned

Required Education and Experience:
• MD or DO degree (or equivalent)
• Must qualify for Assistant Professor rank or higher at the UNTHSC/TCU School of Medicine

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Understanding of educational pedagogy as it relates to the clinical sciences
Preferred Education and Experience:

• Experience developing medical school clinical courses
• Experience managing professionals in a complex organization
• Proven experience in management of multiple initiatives and multiple sites
• Experience with LCME and/or other accrediting bodies
• Experience working with diverse students or diverse populations

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Physicians with active clinical practice must have an unrestricted license to practice medicine;
• Physicians with active clinical practice must have current ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) Certification in area of Emergency Medicine.
