The Office of Information Technology Infrastructure Storage and Virtualization group (IVSGroup) is seeking applicants for an IT Infrastructure Generalist. The Infrastructure Generalist will assist in the day to day operations and maintenance of OIT’s virtual server and storage infrastructure providing support to internal and external customers related to Infrastructure services provided by the IVSGroup. This position will maintain security patches utilizing best practices for all assigned systems, provide troubleshooting and problem resolution as well as assist in planning and execution of hardware and firmware upgrades and be willing to take on new task and responsibilities as needed to support the infrastructure team.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
1. Provide Microsoft and Linux Server operating system configuration and maintenance for several physical and virtual servers in an Active Directory domain environment.
2. Use industry standard monitoring tools to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities on an on-going basis.
3. Assist in managing VMware and Hyper-V virtual infrastructure.
4. Deploy Windows and Linux virtual machines.
5. Work with public cloud vendors such as Azure and AWS .
6. Assist in managing iSCSI and FC base storage arrays.
7. Work with ethernet and Fibre Channel connections.
8. Install and maintain physical server and storage hardware.
9. Work with software vendors to provide support for third-party applications hosted on Windows and Linux servers.
10. Define and document best practices and support procedures.

In addition, this position will work closely with both IT personnel and end-users from several different disciplines and backgrounds. After-hours and on-call responsibilities should be expected.

Applicants for this position must have demonstrated experience and success working both in a collaborative team environment and independently. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must also be skilled at organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple concurrent tasks and/or projects.

Typical salaries for the Specialist IV level are between $55,000 and $65,000. Degree accepted in lieu of experience for Level IV only.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

The Specialist V position requires a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) or more years of applicable experience as indicated. The starting salaries for this level are between $64,000 and $75,000.

The Specialist VI position requires a Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) or more years of applicable experience. The starting salaries for this level are typically between $73,000 and $85,000.

Desired qualifications for this position include an earned degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution. Other desired qualifications include a working knowledge of one or more of the following:

1. Manage third party applications in a complex environment
2. Manage servers in Microsoft Active Directory domain
3. VMware and Hyper-V administration
4. Linux server administration
5. SAN and NAS storage
6. Hyperconverged infrastructure
7. Azure or AWS hosted services
8. Firewalls and basic networking
