M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry; applicants with degrees in related fields to chemistry will be considered if they have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in chemistry.

This position is open to any chemistry discipline. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all Master’s or Doctoral requirements by May 2021.

Description of the Department or Unit

The A. R. Smith Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with eight different concentrations, including the American Chemical Society ( ACS ) Certified degree, Marketing and Business, Biochemistry, Environmental, Fermentation Sciences, Forensic Science, Individually Designed and Chemistry Secondary Education Licensure; a BA degree in Chemistry is also offered. The Department also offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Fermentation Sciences, which includes a background in chemistry and biology as well as business, marketing and entrepreneurial principles. The department has 19 tenure-track faculty members, 291 undergraduate chemistry majors and 57 undergraduate fermentation sciences majors. Many of the chemistry and fermentation sciences majors conduct research and disseminate their results at national, regional and local professional meetings and in peer-reviewed publications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach 12 contact hours per week in undergraduate laboratories and/or lectures. Primary instructional duties will be introductory chemistry, however, additional classes in the candidate’s field may be requested. The candidate will hold office hours for students and perform the normal duties associated with teaching. Teaching assignments may be adjusted depending upon departmental needs and qualifications of the successful candidate. Candidates will be expected to engage in relevant service activities. Throughout their teaching, research, and service duties, the successful applicant should promote diversity and inclusive excellence.
