Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide first-line supervisory law enforcement work. This position has a full power of arrest; position has law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves supervision a unit of officers; the positions evaluate appropriateness of officer responses; designate assignments; direct needed resources; and interpret laws, ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
This position performs duties as a Crime /Strategic Analyst in conducting strategic analyses which includes preparing monthly, quarterly annual and on-request reports. Prepares reports for Crime Abatement briefings and investigative support for the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) As the CCTV/Video Surveillance Coordinator duties are responsible for operating and maintaining surveillance equipment, watching both live and recorded video surveillance footage, retrieve video(s) upon request, reporting suspicious behavior and other incidents; Card Access Control Administrator is responsible for the confidential coordination for card access activities of the central door lock system. Performs tasks requiring interpretation and adaptation of departmental procedures, policies, and practices regarding card access administration. Property and Evidence Room Custodian is responsible for receiving, inventorying, controlling and disposing of evidence seized and/or property for safekeeping by the department. This position has a full power of rest; position has law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Interpret department policies and procedures review of all reports and investigations accomplished during a shift, activity coordination, and providing input concerning operational planning.
Other duties include but are not limited to orientation and training of officers, inspections of officers and/or other departmental personnel on a shift, conducting pre-shift briefings, review of all reports and investigations accomplished during a shift, activity coordination, discipline, conducting performance reviews, and providing input concerning operational planning.
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of law enforcement experience. Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess working knowledge of emergency communications center; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Applications; knowledge of leadership management; ability to conduct criminal and civil investigations; ability to conduct roll call inspections and briefings of department personnel; ability to enforce all applicable traffic and parking regulations; ability to conduct assign overtime details to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained at all times; ability to prepare duty schedules and post assignments as necessary; ability to identify, investigate, and recommend corrective action for internal affair investigation; ability to manage large campus events; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent editing skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
