Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of the position is to function as one of 9 police telecommunicators in the Police and Public Safety Communications Center.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information Computer Operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment.

Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Operates an emergency communications console and related radio, telephone, alarm monitoring, and computer equipment in the Department of Police and Public Safety. Employee receives radio, telephone, and computer-generated messages and alarms, Employee dispatches law enforcement, security, fire, emergency medical, and other emergency response units as required, following departmental General Orders. Employee utilizes federal and state criminal information databases according to policies and federal and state law. Employee demonstrates skill in dealing with callers in emergency situations and in making sound judgments regarding dispatch decisions.
