Job Description
Distinguishing Characteristics
Supervises and works collaboratively with a leadership team
comprised of the Assistant Director for AmeriCorps, Assistant
Director for Senior Corps, and a Financial Oversight Manager.
Provides substantial input for performance and rewards decisions;
has significant influence over employment decisions; allocates
resources across functional areas; approves resource use decisions;
and provides coaching and leadership to promote staff development
throughout the department.
Applies proficient knowledge of common management tactics, such as
providing formal performance reviews and final employment
decisions, to effectively lead a large team.
Oversees program development (new grants and contracts), program
management, and program evaluation while assuring efficient and
strong performance.
Applies proficient ability in program design, community needs
assessments, and , and grant goal development.
Applies awareness of trends and changes has advanced knowledge and
skills across multiple areas or functions related to program
management, the non-profit sector, and the field of volunteerism
and service.
An experienced professional in the field of volunteer engagement
and management with a knowledge of and experience working with
state, federal, private, and non-profit organizations, particularly
with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the
Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family.
Essential Position Responsibilities
LEADERSHIP
Accountable for the success of all CSI programs.
Directs policies and programs based on goals set by NAU and college
leadership.
Directs the development, implementation, and growth of CSI. Leads
the planning and development of CSI’s strategic plan, mission,
vision, and goals.
Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and recommends methods for
continuous improvement to leadership.
Responsible for Civic Service Institute compliance with applicable
state and federal laws and mandates relevant policies and
procedures; holds staff accountable of these standards through
various processes.
Administers and manages department budgets by setting priorities
for budgets and monitoring and approving budget expenditures.
Facilitates the planning, development, maintenance, and evaluation
of programs that support Civic Service Institute initiatives.
Oversees personnel management and development including structure,
training and working strategies, quality management, and strategic
plans.
Identifies and develops resources needed to grow the
institute.
Plans, directs and oversees, with the help of the Leadership Team,
the development and evaluation of the Civic Service Institute’s
programs, grants, events, and fundraisers.
Coordinates the development of annual staff training.
Oversee CSI’s Community Engagement Committee development, meetings,
and events.
Builds staff morale and incentives for achievement.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Identifies grant/funding opportunities consistent with CSI’s
mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Responds to requests for proposals, funding opportunity
announcements, potential collaborations, etc.
Obtains external funding for CSI through grants, special events,
and fundraisers.
Serves as the lead planner for the GEMS Citywide Volunteer
Appreciation Luncheon. Develop sponsorship and ongoing support of
the GEMS Awards.
Provides support to CSI’s leadership team in submission of
grants/contracts.
Develops certificate and badge programs aligned with the mission
and vision of CSI and/or the Dean of Social & Behavioral
Sciences.
ADMINISTRATIVE/MANAGEMENT
Directs and supervise the Institute's Leadership Team, including
the Assistant Director for AmeriCorps, Assistant Director for
Senior Corps, and a Financial Oversight Manager
Prepares and/or coordinates programmatic, financial, and
administrative reports; analyzing and interpreting CSI generated
statistics, financial data, and management plan data.
Develops and implements Institute policy and guidelines with input
from the Leadership Team.
Coordinates and manages the allocation of space within the
Institute.
Directs and supervises visiting staff, VISTA members, or interns as
needed.
Applies awareness of trends and changes; provides direction to
improve, modify, or design new processes.
OUTREACH/NETWORKING
Serves as the liaison between CSI, the NAU Office of Sponsored
Projects, Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family, the
Corporation for National & Community Service, United Way, and
other federal, state, and local agencies.
Serves as the liaison between CSI and statewide organizations and
committees.
Represents CSI with national and state agencies as well as within
NAU.
Serves as the CSI representative on University committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Services, Administration, or in other
related service disciplines or fields, AND
Six to ten years’ experience working in the field of Volunteerism,
Volunteer Management and/or Gerontology.
Knowledge of and experience working with state, federal, private,
and non-profit organizations, particularly with the Corporation for
National and Community Service, and the Governor’s Office of Youth,
Faith, and Family.
Experience developing and implementing grants and contracts.
Extensive successful supervisory experience.
