Job Purpose

Under close supervision, provides routine care and handling of USDA covered species and other animals that require specialized expertise in a safe and sanitary manner.

Job Duties
  • Feeds and waters large animals according to schedules and instructions.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Maintains bulk feed and bedding supplies necessary for daily use.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment.
  • Handles and transports animals and bedding material.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience Required: One year of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). Certification must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion.
