Quinnipiac University's School of Communications seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Cinematic Production Management to serve as Graduate Director of its new master’s degree program with appointment anticipated for August 2021.

About the Program/Department:

The M.A. in Cinematic Production Management (CPM) program is designed to provide a comprehensive practical graduate level education to students who wish to enter or further pursue careers in film, television and streaming media production as entry and mid-level management staff and future leaders.

The faculty of the Department of Film, Television and Media Arts academic specialties span: history, theory and criticism; screenwriting; directing and producing; cinematography, editing, sound and all aspects of post-production. This student-centered Department has a strong sense of community and the faculty are highly collaborative in teaching, research and creative endeavors.

About the Ed McMahon Communications Center:

The Ed McMahon Communications Center is a first-rate production facility equipped with industry standard technology for hands-on training in all aspects of film, television, journalism and multimedia production. Highlights of the center include a three-camera HDTV studio, a professional-quality audio production studio, and several 4K (ultra-high-definition) editing suites. Labs and classrooms are ideal for independent and group-based work, as well as a variety of multidisciplinary projects.

The Center’s 80 high-performance workstations enable students to work with numerous multimedia and imaging applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and other industry-standard software including Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting.
An extensive equipment loan room makes high-end video and audio recording equipment and support gear available for use in the field. An inventory of over 100 digital cameras include Sony A73s, Canon EOSRs, Canon C-100s, Sony FS5s and Red Dragon Scarlet Ws.

Responsibilities:

•Teaching responsibilities: instruct graduate courses each semester for fall and spring terms; opportunity for additional under-graduate and graduate teaching assignments on request.

• Teaching release time as Director of The Graduate Program for: instructional hiring and staffing, enrollment management, marketing, curriculum and program development.

• Graduate program development responsibilities include outreach to production companies, studios and streaming services to develop corporate partnerships and job placement opportunities for graduate students.

• Academic advising and mentoring.

• Engagement in university service appropriate to interests.

• Establishment of a research/creative agenda that provides opportunities for student involvement as appropriate.

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required, M.F.A. in Film, Television or Media Arts (or closely related field) preferred

Qualifications:

• Professional experience in the active management of delivered film, television or streaming produced content is required. An understanding of the job roles, duties and expectations of executive producers, show runners, producers including line producers, assistant directors, production managers, location managers, script coordinators, production office coordinators and post production managers is expected.

• University level teaching experience is expected.

• Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community is expected.
