Summary

Responsible for operations of the University’s datacenter, network, and all relevant components. Works closely with other IT staff and campus constituents to ensure availability of systems. Designs, installs and supports various system hardware, servers, network, operating and application software, and services that monitor and support the infrastructure of a multiple operating system environment but based primarily on Windows and TCP /IP.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support the design, implementation, and management of all enterprise systems, network hardware, software, and related peripherals.
2. Perform and maintain routine backups of various types of system hardware and software.
3. Manage the maintenance, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, security, and integration of systems/network hardware and software including servers, routers, switches, wireless, VPN, firewalls, VLANs, DHCP, and other related systems.
4. Monitor existing systems and recommend enhancements, upgrades and replacements as necessary.
5. Perform network analysis using network tools and applications in order to maintain the highest availability and access to all systems.
6. Assist in the planning and implementation of operational changes to computers, networks, and related technologies.
7. Research, develop and evaluate new technologies; plan implementation with other technical staff.
8. In collaboration with others, develop disaster preparedness and recovery strategies for various systems.
9. Develop and document systems/network policies, processes, and procedures.
10. Identify and report on overall systems/network metrics.
11. Coordinates with manufacturers and integrators as directed.
12. Serve as project manager, and follow-up with customers (faculty, staff and students) as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part-time Student Workers, in order to complete work assignments.

 Knowledge of TCP /IP, LAN / WAN, storage technology, Microsoft NOS, Linux/Unix, Macs, Windows OS.
 Knowledge of network monitoring, network security, and configuration of Cisco switches/routers/firewalls, VLANs, ACL, VPN, IDS, wireless.
 Experience with Windows Active Directory, DHCP, DNS .
 Knowledge of VMWare, Exchange 2013, NetVault, VDI .
 Ability to maintain confidentiality.
 Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
 Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
 Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferably in Computer Science or Information Technology; and/or three to five years’ experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; or equivalent combination or education and experience. Strong knowledge of various Microsoft products. Industry certifications desirable. Specific experience with the following technologies:
• Windows Server, Exchange Server, and SQL Server
• System management tools such as Systems Center Operations Manager
• PowerShell scripts or other automation tools
• VMWare ESX and iSCSI SANs
• Active Directory and DNS
• Suse Linux Enterprise
• Desktop Virtualization (VMware Horizon View)
• Network and systems monitoring tools (SolarWinds Orion)
