Position PDS Clinical Residency Director Full Time/Part Time Full Time Job Type Term Appointment Position Summary

The Director will lead in the development of state-wide evidence-based Professional Development School ( PDS ) partnerships. Duties will include providing leadership and oversight of the Pojoaque Public Schools ( PVSD ) PDS lab-school program and the Multi-district Teacher Residency Professional Learning Internship ( TRPLI ). Both programs are collaborations between New Mexico Highlands University ( NMHU ), Los Alamos National Labs ( LANL ) and PVSD .

Primary goals of our teacher residency programs are to:
-increase the number and quality of new teachers through a multi-year teacher clinical residency program;
-increase the number of underrepresented teachers in PreK-12 schools;
-improve teaching and learning in a public school system that is grounded in continuous professional learning; and
-create a model for culturally sustaining teachers, leaders and policy makers.

The development of PDS schools provide a holistic approach to educator development and professional learning. The PDS will work collaboratively among its partners to develop a system that integrates coordinated professional development for PreK-12 teachers, educational leaders, and incoming pre-service teachers from the NMHU school of education.

Our teacher residency programs are based on national best-practice in PDS schools to include evidenced based co-teaching and are intended to provide pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and administrators the opportunity to improve their practices in order to improve student academic performance. It is also intended to be a model of innovation for New Mexico educators and policy makers. Our teacher residency programs are the first in the state to partner strategically with school districts, a university pre-service program, and a major employer.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Serve as a liaison between NMHU School of Education, PVSD, LANL and state-wide PDS partner schools. Establish a state-wide PDS Advisory that includes representation from NMHU SOE Centers, and conduct regular meetings with the stakeholders (school principals, cooperating teachers, mentor teachers, and special project leadership teams).
-Oversight and management of PDS school liaisons.
-Coordinate with PDS partners to execute project goals and objectives.
-Manage the PVSD lab-school and TRIPLI on-site in each location.
-Coordinate recruitment and retention initiatives including teacher candidate advisement.
-Conduct and assist in coordinating resident teacher seminars, professional learning opportunities, and teach methods courses on-site at PVSD and TRPLI .
-Engage in action research collaboratively with cooperating/mentor teachers and teacher candidates.
-Supervise teacher candidates on site at partner school (i.e., conduct classroom walkthroughs, classroom observations/evaluations, and post-observation conferences.)
-Provide training and support to teacher candidates (i.e., facilitation of seminars, teaching methods and field experience courses).
-Provide training and support to mentor and cooperating teachers.
-Coordinate with School of Education department chairs and faculty to quality of programs and to ensure alignment of clinical experiences with coursework, policies, structures and standards.
-Collect, analyze and report data and facilitate data conversations with stakeholder groups to inform improvement in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Accreditation.
-Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

-Master’s Degree in Education or related field
-Two or more years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 setting
-Two or more years of experience as a mentor or instructional coach in a K-12 setting
-Two or more years of teaching experience teaching at the college/university level in the area of teacher education or related area.
-Hold a valid K-12 teaching license in NM or be eligible to apply. Experience with clinical supervision and advisement of teacher candidates.
-Five or more years of demonstrated successful experience in K-12 public school settings.

Preferred Qualifications

-Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education, closely related area, or equivalent.
-Background in STEM Literacies
-Bilingual
-Experience collaborating with K-12 partners to implement an evidence-based professional development school.
-NM Level III Instructional Leader Teaching License & Experience as an Instructional Leader
-Experience with clinical supervision of teacher candidates in rural and rural remote school districts serving Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
-Experience teaching children and youth in rural and rural remote school districts serving Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
-Research experience

-Ability to apply evidence-based co-teaching and mentorship strategies and skills.
-Ability to conduct research (formal and action) pertaining to questions relevant to effective teaching (co-teaching, culturally sustaining pedagogy and STEM literacies.)
-Proficiency in teaching and communicating with colleagues and students via electronic and digital modalities.
-Knowledge of and experience working towards culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies.
-Knowledge and experience in various teaching modalities including face-to-face, online synchronous, asynchronous, and/or blended learning.
-Knowledge and understanding of adult learning theories, principles and strategies and experience teaching/coaching adults.
-Ability to develop effective methodologies that integrate teaching, metacognition and research.
-Ability to engage in collaboration with other departments within the university.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Commitment to improving K-12 student and pre-service teacher learning and teaching cycles.
-Strong planning and organizational skills.
-Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
