STEM Education, Equity, and Inclusion Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), in partnership with the NSF-funded Coherent Ising Machines Project based at Stanford University, is seeking a new science education postdoctoral fellow to conduct research and outreach activities aimed at addressing the longstanding underrepresentation of various populations in the technical AI field.
The Coherent Ising Machines (CIMs) Project is led by Prof. Hideo Mabuchi (Applied Physics, Stanford University) and includes collaborating groups from Stanford, Caltech, Cornell, USRA/NASA and NTT PHI Research Labs. The successful candidate will coordinate the project team’s NSF-mandated efforts towards Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC), engaging directly in outreach activities such as program development and partner relations, and conducting research on factors that inhibit students from underrepresented groups from accessing careers in computational science and engineering. Working with the HAI and CIMs teams, the incumbent will also ensure successful completion of related administrative responsibilities (e.g., website and marketing, budgeting, and program logistics).
For BPC activities, NSF’s Directorate for Computer Information Science and Engineering strongly encourages meaningful actions that address the longstanding underrepresentation of various populations - including women, African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Native Pacific Islanders, and persons with disabilities - in the computing field.
This is an excellent career-building opportunity for candidates looking to grow their careers in leading-edge CS research while expanding their experience and resume in education/Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) mentoring, as well as for those focused in developing their careers in STEM-Ed.
Preferred qualifications include:
-
Doctoral degree in STEM education, or
Ph.D. in computer science or AI-related field
Experience/interest in computer
science education
Project leadership, time management,
communication and writing skills
Ability and desire to collaborate
with both scientists and outreach professionals
