Academic Neonatologists

Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics

University of Utah School of Medicine

The Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine has immediate openings for Academic Neonatologists.  The Neonatologist will provide clinical care for neonatology patients, and will share in night call and weekend responsibilities.  Initial expectation is approximately 16-18 weeks of clinical service time annually.  Clinical activities will be carried out at each of the Division’s three Level III/IV Newborn Intensive Care Units (University Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center). Active clinical programs include ECMO, whole body hypothermia, NeuroNICU, perioperative care and all aspects of neonatal critical care. In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work, including education, investigation, administration/service, as well as advocacy.

The Neonatologist will be expected to pursue scholarly research including individual or collaborative research, grant development and written/oral presentations of research, with mentoring support. Opportunities for collaborative research exist within the Division, as well as throughout the medical school and University for bench, translational and clinical areas of investigation. Currently, our Division is a member of the Neonatal Research Network.

Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and must possess the required skills to conduct research activities.  Experience and/or interest in simulation modeling is preferred.  The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical track.

The Department and University offers a competitive salary and an unmatched benefits program, including non-contributory retirement contributions of 20.2% of annual salary that vest immediately. The Department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to help faculty succeed in translational or basic research.
