University Police Officer - 190338

Full-time (Shift schedule to be determined based on departmental needs.)

Clark University seeks an experienced officer who will provide flexible, responsive, and community-based policing while providing safety and security to University constituencies and properties. The University Police Officer will support the teaching and learning process by working to create and support a student-centered environment.

 

The University Police Officer will enforce local, state and federal laws in compliance with the University's policies and procedures and promote positive police-community relations through scheduled activities and routine interaction with the University community.

Requirements:

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Patrol the buildings, grounds and properties of the University and appropriate adjacent areas on foot
  • and/or in a police vehicle to ensure the security of the buildings, properties and community members, to guard against trespass, theft, damage of property, fire and injury to individuals; will protect life and property
  • Maintain order among visitors, students and the University community, direct traffic and parking of motor vehicles; provide direction and information to the general public as needed.
  • Exercise police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators within jurisdiction, investigate accidents and complaint working with other law enforcement entities.
  • Safeguard and transport monies and valuables to banks and other areas, as required.
  • Perform police duties at various events on campus and/or be on call for emergencies or special events.
  • Prepare reports on investigations conducted and appropriate incidents occurring during tours of duty; ensure confidentiality and protection of sensitive materials.
  • Upon shift changes, ensure all pertinent information is communicated to the incoming relief officers; information should be clearly communicated and follow outlined procedures; i.e. checking e-mail regularly for additional communications.
  • Operate equipment such as two-way radios, computers and software; facsimile machines, base stations
  • emergency and medical equipment and office machines.
  • Determine whether a violation has occurred and the appropriate course of action to follow.
  • Follow appropriate course of action to take in emergencies.
  • Assess road and sidewalk conditions to determine need for snow removal and treatments.
  • Locks and unlocks doors and gates. Responds to alarms.
  • Enforces campus parking rules and regulations.
  • Recommends protective safety measures for all appropriate safety, fire or hazardous material situations.
  • Actively supports the teaching and learning process. Works to create a student-centered environment.
  • Working actively with other areas of the University to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration
  • collegiality, civility and teamwork.
  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Police officers that are hired full-time are members of the Clark University Police Association and currently work a 40 hour week on a 4-2 schedule. The starting hourly rate is  $19.99/hour with excellent benefits including health and dental insurance, employee and family tuition benefits, vacation, retirement plan, and free use of campus fitness center.
