The University of South Carolina School of Music is accepting applications for Assistant Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy. This tenure-track position will begin August 16, 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Engage in significant professional activities, maintaining regional, national, international visibility in music research, pedagogy, and/or performance. Primary teaching duties in piano pedagogy, group piano, and applied piano, as needed. Coordinate the Group Piano program and train Graduate Teaching Assistants for this program. Recruit students for undergraduate and graduate piano and piano pedagogy programs. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Doctorate (or ABD) is required with priority given to applicants with specialization and graduate degrees in piano pedagogy. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with a record of successful group piano teaching and related administrative and leadership skills. Preference for a candidate who demonstrates previous experience and/or potential for innovative instruction in piano pedagogy, to meet the needs of the 21st century pianist.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of South Carolina in Columbia, founded in 1801, is the flagship Carnegie Level R1 research institution of a seven-campus, fully accredited, state-supported system. The School of Music is an independent unit on campus and a dynamic leader for music and music education in the United States with a full-time faculty of 56, and a student population of 475. Degrees in piano performance and piano pedagogy are offered through the doctoral level.
