Health Management and Systems Sciences Assistant Professor

The University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Sciences (SPHIS) seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-eligible junior faculty position at the assistant professor-level with appointment in the Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences (HMSS). This individual will build HMSS capacity in health services research, population health research, or applied health economics.  The candidate hired will maintain a faculty appointment in HMSS, providing teaching and service for the department’s graduate-level programs (MSHA, MPH-Health Policy, and Ph.D.).

The applicant should be able to teach various courses in economics and quantitative methodology. Experience with labor and/or behavioral economics is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate should be able to show the potential for a strong research record in health services research, applied health economics, health policy, comparative effectiveness research, or a related area.

Additionally, the hired candidate will play an active role in the research activities of the Commonwealth Institute of Kentucky (CIK) and the National Science Foundation’s University of Louisville Center for Health Organization Transformation (CHOT). Established in 2002, SPHIS distinguished itself among schools of public health as one that integrates how information about the public’s health is acquired, evaluated, acted upon, and disseminated, as well as subsequent impacts on public health. CIK was established in 2015 to serve as a transdisciplinary collaborative for population health improvement, policy, and analytics.  The primary operations of CIK include data warehousing and analytics, community-based research, and health policy research and education. CHOT was established at the University of Louisville in 2017 and is a national multi-university and healthcare organization industry/university research cooperative center (I/UCRC).

Educational activities are expected to flow from the growing SPHIS infrastructure with the candidate contributing to instructional activities in areas such as an expansion of health administration and health services research instruction, a community health worker training program, seminars on health-targeted topics, and new tracks in comparative effectiveness research and health policy under the school’s Clinical Investigation Sciences (CIS) program.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. A cover letter detailing the candidate’s research interests, teaching, and other relevant experience, curriculum vitae, and three reference letters are required to be submitted as part of the on-line application. Must submit applications by December 1, 2020 at https://www.higheredjobs.com/institution/details.cfm?JobCode=177312893&Title=Assistant%20Professor%20Tenure%20Track%20%28Job%20Id%3A%2039700%29&aID=7137
