Job Description

The Postdoctoral Associate will help develop a Rapid Response to the COVID-19 program, focusing on mitigation of SARS-CoV-2 using different approaches in Food and Food Processing. The Postdoctoral Associate will work collaboratively with other team researchers and will supervise students as well. The position will be located in Blacksburg, Virginia, with programmatic linkages in the Departments of Food Science and Technology (FST), VA Seafood AREC, Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education, and Population Health Sciences in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech.

Required Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in Food Safety, veterinary or a closely related field awarded no more than four years from effective date of appointment with one year of eligibility remaining. Research experience in food safety, and molecular biology, and strong written and oral communication skills with ability to develop manuscripts, and assist in preparation of grant proposals and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working on a multi-disciplinary research project with a proven track record of publications, self-motivated, and a team player. Working experience in foodborne viruses, sanitation, and food safety engineering.
A priority for this position is providing rapid response to COVID-19 in food sectors through applied research, extension and education.
