This position is required to effectively staff the Syracuse University Center for Online and Digital Learning. The Instructional Designer provides guidance and support to faculty to include collaborating to build courses; designing and building instructional activities and engagements. The Instructional Designer will work with faculty to develop and deliver online and technology-mediated course content. The Instructional Designer will work with faculty to understand online course plans including necessary materials, teaching approaches, and student assessment. In addition the Designer will manage course materials on the LMS, monitor deployment and delivery of course materials, and troubleshoot problems as they arise with the LMS and course content.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in the fields of instructional design, curriculum development, or adult learning; or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
• 3-5 years of instructional design and course building experience.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Ability to work directly with faculty and staff in various disciplines to design, develop, and deliver technology-based courses and other educational media in an online environment.
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
• Familiarity with current educational and internet technology, including major learning management systems, social media, office and multimedia software.
• Demonstrated proficiency in various word processing, spreadsheet, graphic and database software programs.
• Demonstrated experience or expertise in Adobe Connect, Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline Articulate, and/or video editing
• Ability to collaborate and coordinate with Instructional Design team members.
• Ability to train and mentor faculty and staff on the use of technology to enhance teaching and implement new teaching practices.
• Advise on best practices and instructional support for instructors using the university-supported learning management system.
• Demonstrated fluency in learning theories, instructional design, program planning, engaged learning practices and adult learning principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility guidelines and copyright compliance.
• Demonstrated experience developing and conducting instructor-led training (live and via webcast).
• Ability to develop workflows and business procedures.
• Demonstrated experience taking, creating, or administering online asynchronous training.
• Ability to deliver research-based, learner-centered course development support for instructors teaching in blended and online formats

Responsibilities

Develop content in collaboration with faculty
• Build, review, reformat and update courses in LMS
• Define objectives for courses/curricula.
• Design assessments and meaningful course interactions to increase learning and retention.
• Work with video production team.
• Provide quality control by completing checklists related to the build phase and contribute to the overall quality assurance process.
•Provide training both formal and informal to faculty and staff to broaden skills and competencies.
•Investigate tools, technology and methodology to aid team members in performing their work more effectively.
