Position Summary

The Director of Health Occupations at Washburn Tech is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the various Health Occupations programs. These programs include Licensed Practical Nursing ( LPN ), Health Care Technology ( CNA, CMA, HHA ), Phlebotomy, EMT and Surgical Technology. The Director of Health Occupations provides leadership to staff including, but not limited to curriculum planning, review and implementation, and professional development. This position is also responsible for program compliance with state and federal regulations regarding certifications and licensures.

Essential Job Functions of Position

Supervise technical instructors, adjuncts, lab assistants and staff members in Health Occupations, providing feedback, guidance, and evaluation of individuals’ performance.

Oversee clinical affiliations for the unit; ensure MOU agreements are updated annually; participate in the Clinical Utilization scheduling group.

Work with the Assistant Dean/Director of Technical Education to ensure that student learning is assessed in all programs and apply assessment results, as needed, to adjust and modify programs for continuous improvement.

Address concerns and complaints involving Health Occupations instructors and students.

Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings, keeping staff informed of relevant issues and fostering a team environment; ensure accurate minutes of meetings are available as needed for credentialing organizations.

Work with Admissions in implementing the selective admissions processes for the LPN and SurgTech programs.

Promote the Regional Simulation Center; supervise the staff member and utilization of the center.

Establish positive working relationships with all relevant credentialing organizations; support the coordinators of the SurgTech and EMT programs as they work with their credentialing organizations.

Stay abreast of changes, issues, and concerns regarding regulatory compliance. Implement changes as needed.

Stay abreast of needs and concerns within the local Health Occupations community to ensure students have the skills needed to secure employment after program completion.

Maintain accreditation for programs within Health Occupations as appropriate.

Performs additional job related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Nursing
Experience in health care administration or health care teaching.

Preferred: Five years of experience in health care administration or teaching.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations

Current RN licensure in Kansas with no disciplinary action pending.
