Position Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences is looking for an Administrative Director in the Arts and Humanities sector of the college. The successful candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean as a strategic partner and advisor and will assume responsibility for key administration and processes for the Sector.

Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• As the chief administrator, you will oversee all administrative functions within the sector of the College. This includes, but is not limited to, Budget and Financial Management, Human Resources, Course Scheduling and Advisement, Student Services, Pre and Post Award Management, Communication, and Event Management. As chief administrator you will ensure that staff support services to sector constituents (faculty, staff, students) are provided efficiently, effectively, consistently, and with focus on customer service.
• You will serve as the liaison between administrative staff and the Sector Associate Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and the Associate Dean for Research. This involves supervising professional and/or classified staff across the sector to maintain consistency and effectiveness. You will regularly review sector staff performance and seek out professional development and growth opportunities for the staff you oversee.
• You will take ownership for administrative leadership in the sector handling non-routine questions and concerns and troubleshooting problems that get elevated from staff including, for example, employee relations issues and procedure/process concerns. You will know when to elevate issues to the Associate Dean and work with central offices as needed.
• You will ensure adherence to University and College policies and procedures and implement processes with an eye toward efficiency and best practices. This will include collaborating with other Sector Administrative Directors, as well as developing/maintaining functional expertise within your sector. In addition, you will work closely with senior staff in the Office of the Dean such as the UBO, FPMO, Associate Dean for Strategic Programs, and Assistant Dean for Communication.
• You will coordinate and provide necessary data and information for various reports, communicate with the Associate Dean about all pertinent activity within the Sector on a regular (daily/weekly) basis, and respond to ad hoc or one-time reporting requests from other University offices, or discipline- specific sources.
• You will be responsible for attending unit and University meetings and serve on committees as appropriate, representing the sector and College as requested.

The College of Arts and Sciences is a large college, with a small college feel. We are the largest academic unit at the University at Buffalo, with 29 departments and 16 academic programs, 23 centers and institutes, two art galleries and major theater and music performance venues. We provide education and scholarship in the Liberal Arts and Sciences to the University, the Western New York community and the world at large.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a business-related field.
• Supervisory, administrative and financial management experience and proficiency.
• Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Must be able to interact professionally and positively with a diverse constituency. Must demonstrate adaptability and problem solving skills.
• Must be customer-service focused and able to respond to stressful situations with diplomacy and tact.
• Must demonstrate ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in carrying out responsibilities.
• Demonstrated computer skills with MS Office.
• Must be able to manage competing priorities and demonstrate a commitment to learning new skills as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree
• Experience working the College of Arts and Sciences.
• Experience with University at Buffalo systems ( SIRI, CONCUR, eReq, etc.).
