Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Director (at the rank of Lecturer ) in the Common Core Office (Ref.:502157), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
The Common Core (https://commoncore.hku.hk/) is HKU’s distinctive form of holistic and integrative undergraduate education in which all the undergraduates take six interdisciplinary courses across the four areas of Scientific and Technological Literacy, the Arts & Humanities, Global Issues, and China: Culture, State and Society. Emphasis is placed on active learning in the classroom; on project-based and undergraduate research initiatives; on creating opportunities for public impacts of student work; and on the development of the capacities needed to thrive in the 21st century.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or the equivalent. He/She should demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, as well as a commitment to innovative undergraduate learning. He/She should also be committed to creative university administration and intrigued by how best to reshape cross-disciplinary undergraduate learning for the 21st century. Experience with teaching and/or administrative experience in programmes with a mission similar to the Common Core is preferred.
The appointee will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day administration and ongoing innovation of the Common Core. He/She will provide leadership and support for the enhancement of interdisciplinary undergraduate research; for active digital and F2F learning strategies; for the Student Learning Festival and projects such as Critical Zones, The Passion Project, and Unforeseen Circumstances (our online journal + exhibit space). He/She will organize workshops for teaching staff, tutors, and students; enhance our digital identity and donor-relations; and represent the Common Core to a variety of constituents. Additional duties will be included as needed.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
