Communications Director - Deputy Chief of Staff

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

This position reports to the Chief of Staff and devises and executes communication material both for internal and external constituencies on behalf of the President of the university and, upon request, her leadership team in a way that elevates the profile of the University and reinforces the university's brand. This includes speech writing, presentation preparation, correspondence, social media, internal messaging, research, and editing. This position also strategically supports the Office of the President, the Chief of Staff, and other University executives and prepares executive meetings and corresponding materials for all campus senior leadership.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Presidential Social Media - Write and post content in coordination with the President and MarComm. Observe what is impactful and constantly improve social media footprint, differentiating what works best for FB, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. Learn, suggest and implement social media strategy in collaboration with MarComm. Coordinate messages and maintain content for the website. Ensure excellence in style and substance for the website.

Presentations/Thought Leadership - Work with the President to create/edit presentations, talking points, editorials and other written and verbal content. Liaise with others as needed to create proper content for the President's engagements. Work with the President to create new content, e.g., editorials to promote presidential thought leadership in higher education.

Presidential Support - Work closely with the Executive Partner to ensure proper prioritizing of the President's schedule, including family and personal priorities; help ensure that the President hass the right preparation and information to ensure meetings and events are effective.

University Relations/Marketing and Communications - Read and edit all critical press releases and other external-facing documents that hold the President's or UVU's imprimatur. Liaise with UR and MarComm on website redesign and represent the President's preferences and suggestions. Work with the President and coordinate with UR and MarComm on special communication projects. Provide input and final edit for commencement script.

Correspondence - Coordinate, create, edit presidential communications, including letters for UVU publications, campus correspondence, memos, notes, etc. Monitor “Tell the President” correspondence; forward or respond directly, as appropriate.

Executive Meetings -Support Cabinet and President's Council and other strategic meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.

-Demonstrated and versatile presentation creation skills.
-Proficiency with Power Point and Keynote.
-High level administrative, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
-Skills in multitasking, prioritizing, adapting to change, and working well under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred.

Physical Requirements:
This position will perform work in a standard office setting.

Pay Range: $63,151 - $78,989
