Academic Services Specialist
Perform specialized duties in support of student achievement and success by working in areas that may include admission readiness, high school to college transition, and other special programs.Responsibilities
This position is considered a “soft money” position and is funded from money generated solely through a grant. Therefore, the university will incur no salary obligation beyond funding derived from this source.
Typical Allocation of Duties:
Provide direct student services -
Provide direct services to students to provide advising and support to students in special programs; to instruct pre-admission courses and assist with student transitions; and to provide other assigned support.
Coordinate with other student support professionals -
Coordinate with a variety of internal stakeholders to contribute to the success of students.
Ensure compliance - 15%
Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, university system, institutional, program, and other regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
Prepare reports and maintain records -
Prepare a variety of regular and special reports, including those necessary for legal and regulatory compliance. Maintain student files in compliance with FERPA guidelines.
The incumbent will develop program activities, coordinate student recruitment, maintain participant files, work with project personnel to recruit, identify and select eligible participants, collaborate with target school personnel, and conduct financial aid and post-secondary access workshops. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the project director to ensure all budgetary expenditures are processed, help monitor grant expenditures, and gather data required for reporting. The project coordinator will perform other duties as assigned by the director.
Master's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
