Research Technician II



Summary

The lab of Dr. Eric Van Nostrand (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Therapeutic Innovation Center) is seeking talented molecular biologists to aid our studies of how RNA processing is regulated in breast cancer and RNA viral infection. As part of this work, this position will perform next-generation sequencing library preparation (eCLIP, RNA-seq, and others) to profile in vivo targets of RNA binding proteins.

Job Purpose

Research Technician work independently with supervision from the PI, postdoctoral associate, or graduate students as part of an interdisciplinary team, following existing validated protocols to execute assigned experiments.

Job Duties
  • Perform molecular biology experiments, including DNA cloning, immunoprecipitation, Western Blotting, NGS library preparation
  • Execute research experiments with guidance from mentor (PI, postdoctoral fellow, or graduate student).
  • Clearly documents and communicates (oral and written) experimental results and progress.
  • Annotate and maintain collaborative protocol repositories for all lab members.
  • Work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and work areas.
  • Frequently handles/works with biohazards.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: None Required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biology, genetics, or related field of science.
  • Experience Preferred: 1-2 years of research experience.
  • Experience in one or more key areas including: molecular biology, next-generation sequencing library preparation, or mammalian cell culture:
  • Experience in standard molecular techniques, including immunoprecipitation and Western blotting, molecular cloning (restriction digest, Gibson Assembly, etc), DNA, RNA and protein isolation, PCR, qPCR.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation of various types, including ChIP-seq, RNAseq, CLIP, etc.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture of standard laboratory cell lines (lentiviral production or primary / stem cell culture experience).
