The Hannah Arendt Global Humanities Network, part of the new Open Society University Network (OSUN), is hiring a Part-Time Program Coordinator. The Global Humanities Network curates events that foster a culture that values and strengthens the humanities as the foundation of an open society.

The New Program Coordinator will work with the Academic Director and the Executive Director of the Hannah Arendt Global Humanities Network to plan events overseas and domestically, which will include conferences, workshops, retreats, and more. They will also assist in building a network of scholars across the international Open Society University Network.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position scheduled for 24 hours per week. This is a one year contract, with the possibility of renewal for the next two years depending on grant funding. The successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation and religion.
Bard College’s main campus is in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY with 1900 undergraduate students; the campus also features multiple graduate programs. The 1000 acre campus sits along the Hudson River and offers the Fisher Performing Arts Center, the Hessel Museum of Art, as well as the home of the Bard Prison Initiative, the largest college degree granting prison education program in the U.S. The Bard Network also includes several Bard High School Early Colleges across the country as well as five international campuses and partnerships. The Bard Network is complex and demonstrates Bard’s priorities well in addition to the College’s emphasis on civic engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support planning and coordination of Hannah Arendt Global Humanities Network (HAGHN) program and its activities.
  • Support day-to-day activities at the Hannah Arendt Center at Bard College.
  • Monitor HAGHN project budget and track expenditures and transactions.
  • Handle HAGHN project related to financial administration.
  • Help build positive relations within the team and external parties.
  • Keep all members of the team up-to-date with relevant project information.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Organize meetings and point of contact for HAGHN events, lectures, workshops, and webinars.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for individuals, groups, and organizations including flights and ground transportation, booking accommodations, and handling all trip-related tasks.
  • Responsible for every aspect of event planning for the program; selecting venues, determining cost, arranging event services, food, rentals, audiovisual, and work with international partners.
  • Ensure technology is set up for HAGHN operations (video conferencing, presentations, etc.)
  • Prepare paperwork & work with vendors for HAGHN events, lectures, and workshops.
  • Keep updated records and create reports or proposals for HAGHN partners.
  • Support growth and program development for HAGHN initiatives.
  • Compile and track program expenses to maintain and track expenditures.
Program Coordinator Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Previous working experience as a Program Coordinator or office and logistics management.
  • BA in business administration, International Studies, Sociology, Political Studies or similar.
  • Experience planning events from start to finish.
  • Experience working internationally is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of program management and development procedures.
  • Hands-on experience in budgeting, bookkeeping, and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Attention to details.
  • Proactive problem solver to keep projects moving forward.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in a standard office environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.
