The Barnes Center at The Arch is Syracuse University’s integrated health and wellness center that incorporates counseling, health, health promotion and recreation. The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the Barnes Center including initiatives in the areas of customer care, business operations, assessment, and staff development consistent with accreditation requirements and industry standards. The Director of Operations manages operations technologies, regulatory and legal compliance, risk management, quality improvement initiatives, and ensures effective and efficient operations that elevate the student experience.

The Director of Operations works collaboratively with internal and external partners to further the Center’s mission and goals, and reports to the Executive Director of Health and Wellness.

Qualifications

Candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field, plus 5 years of experience. Supervisory experience required; experience in a college health setting preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

Strong Business Acumen and Experience: overseeing budgets, medical billing background, risk management issues

Knowledge of and Experience with Assessment.

Knowledge of best practices in medical and mental health compliance and quality assurance/improvement.

IT skill set to include strong background in Excel, pulling queries from databases, being able to communicate with EHR vendor.

Experience supervising administrative staff in a Healthcare setting.

Basic understanding of Health Insurance laws and processes.

Previous experience in an institution of higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee Center’s compliance requirements including Occupational Safety and Health Administration ( OSHA ), AAAHC accreditation, University assessment process, University Immunization processes, and other regulatory and compliance issues for the Barnes Center. Oversee quality improvement initiatives and chair QI committee. Oversee training and staff development initiatives and credentialing process for licensed professionals.

Manage customer service, billing, contracts, privacy, technology, risk management and legal issues.

Work with Barnes Center functional leads (directors of counseling, health services, health promotion and recreation) to improve business processes, support operating needs, monitor technology needs, and contribute to creating outstanding student experience.

Supervise all administrative personnel in the Barnes Center including customer service, technology, assessment, and medical records.

Work with IT Application Specialist to develop, update and maintain EHR and its intersection with university systems for purposes of improving data collection, billing, and other business processes that enhance the student experience.
